Uneme Matsuri 「采女祭」(Festival for the Consolation of Uneme) at Sarusawa-ike「猿沢池」 Pond
Uneme Matsuri is held on August 15th according to the old lunar calendar (The Harvest Moon).
It is believed that Uneme, who had lost the emperor’s favour, committed suicide by jumping into Sarusawa Pond.
Uneme Matsuri is held to let the soul of Uneme rest in peace.

17:00 ~ 宵宮祭 ”Yoimiya Matsuri”
The eve of the festival at Uneme Shrine.

17:00 ~ 花扇奉納行列 “Hanaogi-hono-gyoretsu”
A beautiful autumn flower decoration procession through the city centre, including women and children in ancient dress.
18:00 ~ 花扇奉納神事 ”Hanaogi-hono-shinji”
Main Festival at Uneme Shrine.
19:00 ~ 管弦船の儀 “Kangen-sen no Gi”
A boat decorated in beautiful autumn flowers floats on Sarusawa Pond.
